• Beresford Back to the top

Welcome Tour De Kota riders to Beresford! We invite you to “Come Live our Lifestyle!”. Beresford is a town of 2,200 friendly people that will be celebrating their 125th anniversary July 2 to July 5. The 125th Celebration Committee will be offering breakfast and snack items at the new Fire Station. Pancakes, egg bake, espresso, rolls, bagels, fruit, cookies, sweets, pie, trail mix, and various cold drinks will be served. Internet and restrooms are available. Entertainment and musicians will be keeping you pumped up for the rest of your ride!

The community hopes to see you back in Beresford for the 125th Celebration. Join one of the sponsored bike rides on Saturday, July 4th (125K, 49K and 5K rides). You can register for any of the bike rides at www.allsportcentral.com Come down for the rides and enjoy the rest of the activities we have planned.

Visitors are always “Valkommen” in Hub City! Since 1925, Hub City has been (and remains today) a gathering spot for the locals. A highlight in this community is the Scandinavian heritage. The Dalesburg Lutheran Church and the Dalesburg Scandinavian Association may surprise you with traditional dress as they offer refreshments on this rest stop. An outdoor church service will be offered at 9:30am (since Pastor Kwen is a bike rider, come see if he decides to officiate in his bike shorts!) The annual Midsummer Festival, which features performers from Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, is scheduled for June 19-25 at Dalesburg Lutheran Church. Volin is the “little town with a big heart.” The Volin Café offers home cooking at its finest! Sit on the screened-in porch and enjoy homemade chicken salad or pork sandwiches, devilled eggs, fresh fruit, muffins, rolls, Chex mix, and pies, pies and more pies! Restrooms and a filling station for water bottles are available on the premises.

The Mission Hill 4-H club, primarily focused on agriculture, has been in existence for 60 years, including 3rd generation members.

Missouri River Cycling Club is sponsoring this rest stop, with refreshments and Porta Potties available. The mission of Missouri River Cycling is to promote bicycling for safety and awareness, with the hope that biking is enhanced as a mode of transportation throughout the state.



• Tabor Back to the top

Tabor, South Dakota is one of the first four counties organized in Dakota Territory, dating back to 1862. This community has a strong Czech heritage, with the 2009 Czech Days held June 18-20 (www.taborczechdays.com) .

Tabor has two public parks and two private parks, with playground facilities and sporting areas. Sokol Park and Vancura Memorial Park-Czech Heritage pioneer mini-village are the private parks with walking tours available.

Points of interest are the Czech Heritage Historical buildings, the Blachnik Museum, and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.



• Tyndall Back to the top

Tyndall is the county seat in Bon Homme County. The community was named for an Irish scientist, John Tyndall. Stop in at Frank’s Trading Post for restrooms and a full service convenience store, or across the road at DQ for a cold treats and eats.



• Avon Back to the top

Avon is a rural farming community with small town values and big heart. We invite you to travel through the City of Avon to our city park for a well-deserved rest. The Boys & Girls Club will be sponsoring the rest stop in the park.

As you come off Hwy 50 you will travel down one of the main road traveled by many of the farmers in Bon Homme County as the travel to the local Farmers Coop Elevator. Looking to the South you will see the Home on the Avon Pirate Football Champs, and the track field. As you travel up the street you will reach the City Pool and our school, a source of much pride for the community and employer of the 2008-09 South Dakota Teacher of the Year. The happy town of Dante will be welcoming riders at the Junction of Hwys 46 / 50. The Dante Assumption Church Centennial Committee will be offering beverages and refreshments on the grassy knoll. Porta Potties will be available.

• Ft. Randall Casino Back to the top

Stop by the Ft. Randell Travel Casino / WST Plaza adjacent to the Casino. Restrooms, hot breakfast items, and full service travel mart / restrooms.

Ft. Randall is located 12 miles west of Wagner on Hwy 46. Water released from the four upstream dams is used at Fort Randall Dam for the production of hydroelectric power. Enough electricity is generated to meet the needs of approximately 245,000 homes. The dam is made of rolled earth and chalk berms, rising to a maximum of 165 feet above the riverbed, 10,700 feet in length.

Pickstown welcomes the Tour de Kota riders to our community. The local American Legion Auxiliary will offer donuts, fruit, yogurt, cookies, granola bars, lemonade, coffee, and Gatorade.

Points of interest in the area are the Old Ft. Randall, the Ft. Randall Dam and National Wildlife Refuge. Gamblers can try their luck at the nearby Fort Randall Casino. Activities in the area include hunting, fishing, picnicking, camping, swimming, golfing, boating, water sports, bird watching, photography and trapping.



• Fairfax Back to the top

We would like to welcome ALL who are with the Tour de Kota to our little town of Fairfax -- the Mother City of the Rosebud! We will have many homemade and other snacks available for you to either enjoy on the spot, or to even take "to go". An assortment of drinks and other refreshments will be available as well--just watch for the signs.

While on your tour through town, you may want to take the time to check out our 1918 bank building museum that is run by our local historical society. Right next door to it is our new Veteran's Memorial, still under construction. We are also home to a grocery/variety store, service station, post office, cafe, and grille & bar -- all on your route of travel! Our small town is also home to three active churches, a lumberyard, grain elevator, car repair shop, and a host of other small businesses.

Many of our vendors will be available to you in our City Hall, too, and access to public restrooms is available at most of the places that have been mentioned, as well as at our community room and city park.

We're looking forward to having you pay a visit to our little town of Fairfax and we hope that your week's ride will be one of the more memorable Tour de Kota's for each and every one of you!

1) Koenig's Korner Market selling homemade cookies (some of the best sugar cookies you will ever have tasted) and souvenir "Fairfax, SD, Mother City of the Rosebud" water bottles, filled with ice water, to help raise funds for community improvement and for our Veteran's Memorial. There will also be some fruit, ice cream bars, popsickles, pop, and various other items available in a grocery store. Public restroom available here.

2) Our historic bank building museum for your touring pleasure.

3) Our Veteran's Memorial boardwalk -- a work still in progress, will have grilled hot dogs available, with picnic table seating on site. Proceeds will go to the Fairfax Historical Society for their Veteran's Memorial project.

4) Louise's Cafe - serving off their menu. Some soft-serve ice cream available here. Also has public restrooms.

5) Weather permitting, the following vendors will be set up in between our cafe and bar & grille: ***Our Junior class advisor will have a vast array of leftover candy bars, pop, bagged popcorn, other drinks, and more available, along with walking tacos and homemade jelly!; ***Our Catholic Youth group will be raising funds for their activities by selling granola bars and trail mix; ***Our 4-H club will be doing some fundraising by selling homemade cookies and bars; ***Some of the ladies of our local historical society will have homemade bars and rolls, as well as a variety of drinks available; (In case of inclement weather, all will be located in our City Hall located along Main Street.

6) A first aid station will be available at the Fairfax Fire Station on Main Street. This complex also houses our Fairfax Community Room, which also has public restrooms available.

7) The Fairfax Bar & Grille will be open for the bikers to be able to cool off and enjoy refreshments they will have available.



• Bonesteel Back to the top

Bonesteel is excited to welcome all Tour de Kota riders; rest, relax, and rejuvenate before your final 30 miles of the day! The Commercial Club will host a "Party in the Park" with local Native dancers and drummers (lots of shade!). Indian tacos, BBQ, Pork sandwiches, homemade desserts, ice cream, and lots of drinks! Misters and water bottle filling station. A DJ will be available from 10am to 2pm. Rest room facilities, First Aid station, and designated bike parking. We are anxious to meet you and greet you so......... see you at our "Party in the Park"!



• St. Charles Back to the top

This quiet stop along the roadside will provide restrooms and refreshments.



• Herrick Back to the top

The 1907 Herrick Elevator sits along Highway 18 and will be the hub for your stop. We offer souvenir t-shirts and South Dakota made products. The Herrick School House will be open two blocks south of the Highway with rooms of antiques and Native American art and gifts from the nearby Milk's Camp Community. Quilts for Show and Sale.

Facilities and Amenities: We've got 4 restrooms in the Elevator (3 with showers) Free water, iced tea and lemonade and plenty of air-conditioned seating. The Herrick Elevator gift shop will have bottled water, drinks, bars, fruit, and more available. First aid will be on-site from 11am-2pm, provided by Burke Ambulance Service.

Herrick's Main Street (with 20 turn of the century buildings) is less than a mile south of the Highway and offers a small-town bar/café/pool hall and a post office. Park provides play facility, shelter and restrooms.

Maps of Historic Herrick will be available at the Elevator. Both the School and Elevator are on the National Register of Historic Places. Historic tour of Herrick or Milk's Camp are available upon request.

• Burke Back to the top

We are excited to have the Tour de Kota stopping in Burke for an afternoon rest stop. A 40’ x 60’ tent will be available to ensure plenty of shade for the expected beautiful day.

The Burke Community Club will be providing free ice water and iced tea. We will also have bottled water and sports drinks available for purchase. There will be a variety of snacks available for purchase ranging from homemade dessert bars to prepackaged granola bars and fruit.

Hospital staff will be available at the rest stop if anyone is in need of medical attention.

The Community of Burke offers a city park with electrical hookups for overnight camping. The Burke Lake Recreation Area is 1 mile east of town and also provides camping opportunities. The Hillcrest Motel is also located in Burke.

The Community of Burke looks forward to seeing each and every one of you.

Snake Creek Recreation Area and the Platte Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring this stop. Refreshments and Porta Potties available.



• Snake Creek Recreation Area Back to the top

Snake Creek Recreation Area will be a welcome rest/food stop after negotiating the up and down terrain of the Missouri River foothills. The state recreation area is located on the east side of the Missouri River/Lake Francis Case, just after you have crossed the Platte-Winner Bridge.

Modern restroom facilities will be available in the campground, which is located on the south side of SD Highway 44. Several shaded campsites will be blocked off and tables will be available for the riders.

The Platte Area Chamber of Commerce will have refreshments ready to revive you after your morning ride. Food items available will be fruit, yogurt, energy bars, trail mix, Dutch Oven cookies, Platte Locker beef jerky sticks, bottled water and health drinks.

If you prefer a full breakfast, Dock 44 Marina is located across Highway 44 from Snake Creek Recreation Area and provides a beautiful view of the river.

The Park Entrance Fee will be waived for riders.

Academy, a small, unincorporated village created in 1898. "The Little City With The Big Attractions." The Academy Fire Department will sponsor this stop, serving water, Gatorade, fruits (bananas, apples, oranges, grapes), sandwiches, chips, and granola bars.

The Chamberlain Swim Team (100% self-supported by Chamberlain parents) will be serving food from the grill and beverages, fruit, and frozen fruit slushes. Porta Potty available.

Experience the Wild West with an authentic breakfast or snacks and beverages at the Chuck Wagon, located in the picturesque bluffs overlooking the Missouri River after the “big” hill!

The Crow Creek Historical Society will be offering snacks and cold drinks at this stop. The Crow Creek Historical Society was established as a private non-profit organization in May 2005. The purpose of the organization is to protect and preserve the cultural and historical sites on the Crow Creek Sioux Indian Reservation. The goal of the society is to establish a museum and heritage center on the reservation within the next ten years.

You may also consider stops at Lynn’s Dakota Mart (full service convenience and grocery store) or at Lonestar Casino to restore your body and spirit.

• Cattleman's Club Back to the top

Cattleman's Club was one of two Fort Sullys. The original Fort Sully was built in 1863 on the shore of the Missouri River east of Farm Island and served as the Base of operations for the Sully Expeditions. In 1866, it was moved because of the poor living conditions it provided the soldiers in the Garrison.

The "Spokin' Hot and the Bent Sprockets" MS 150 bicycle team and the Capitol City Bike Club will co-sponsor this aid station. The MS 150 team is raising funds to participate in the Weekend Ride Around the Hills (WRATH) MS 150 ride in September. The Capitol City Bike Club promotes cycling in the Pierre area, and members of the club regularly participate in organized rides across the state and region.

Amenities will include a selection of drinks, light sandwiches, and assorted snacks, Porta Potties, and shade for a donation to the National MS Society.



• Governor's Ride Challenge Back to the top

Riders willing to take on the Governor’s Challenge will follow Euclid up to Hwy 1804 and circle the Dam, returning on Hwy 1806 and Hwy 34 to Pierre.

The Ft. Pierre Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring this stop. They will be offering an array of breakfast items and power foods to help you stay strong on the last leg of this 438 mile tour. Beverages and restrooms will be available.

This stop will have breakfast sandwiches, bananas, granola bars, bottled water and orange juice for sale. You can also fill up your water bottles at this stop.

The Oahe Dam near Pierre is a rolled earth Dam that provides flood control, irrigation, a power source, a transportation way, and a recreation area. The Visitor Center will be open and staffed and has exhibits and models portraying the construction and operation of Oahe Dam and Lake Oahe.

The Oahe Mission School and Chapel was built in 1877Ft. Pierre Chamber of Commerce will provide breakfast items, power foods and beverages at the historic Oahe Chapel. The Oahe Chapel will be open and staffed from 7am to 9am for riders who would like to visit this historic chapel.



• Oahe Speedway & Spring Creek Recreation Area Back to the top

Oahe Speedway and Spring Creek Recreation Area are sponsoring the rider amenities at this stop. Restrooms and shade is available.

Oahe Speedway is celebrating 5 years of drag racing, offering the only NHRA sanctioned quarter mile drag strip in South Dakota. Race evenings are held every other weekend from the end of April through September.

Spring Creek Recreation Area, 15 miles North West of Pierre (2 miles off Hwy 1804) offers water-lovers access to the Oahe Reservoir. Fishermen try to catch walleye, sauger, northern pike and more, both off shore and from boats. Others just listen to the waves as they crash along the shore.

Lake Oahe Reservoir, located on the Missouri River, provides hours of outdoor fun. The lake has more than 2,000 miles of shoreline and its clear waters are are ideal for boating, sailing, fishing, water skiing and diving. Campers, history buffs, mountain bikers and hikers will find new adventures in this rugged land first explored by Lewis and Clark.

A Pierre Area Chamber group will be sponsoring this stop. Refreshments and Porta Potties will be available.

The second Fort Sully was located very near the Prairie View School aid station. The purpose of the Fort was to keep order between the Native Americans living on the Cheyenne River reservation and the settlers, and was in operation until 1894. The Oahe Chapel was built in 1877, five miles up-river on Peoria Flats where it was used as both a church and a school for the Lakota Sioux tribe. It was later moved to dam to keep it from being flooded.

The Pierre Swim Team is sponsoring this stop, offering water, Gatorade, fruit, veggies, and power bars. Porta Potty available.

The Pierre Swim Team is comprised of 115 members ages 6 - 18 and has been part of the community for over 40 years. The team is a member of the United States Swimming Club and consistently finishes in the top four at the South Dakota Championships. Through the sport of swimming the team strives to help youth achieve excellence and develop their full potential both in and out of the water.

The Onida Chamber of Commerce will sponsor this rest stop. Refreshments and Porta Potty available. The community of Onida is located on Hwy 83. Come visit on your way home and enjoy the beauty of the central plains with down-home charm and gracious hospitality. Onida offers year round recreational opportunities for the whole family.



• Bob's Resort Back to the top

We located just beyond the Hwy 1806 and Hwy 212 intersection, overlooking Lake Oahe. Our grassy area provides plenty of room to relax and stretch. Come inside to use our restroom facilities and to enjoy a lunch of beef sandwiches and pasta salad for $5.50. We will also provide fresh fruit, fresh baked goods from the Gettysburg Bakery, and bottled drinks at an extra charge. Our website address is www.bobsresort.com.
